Operation of a Lock

2006. Macromedia (now Adobe) Flash.

Back when I was learning how to use Flash I had this idea for a simple project. The animation depicts the operation of a navigational lock, such as those found on the Mississippi River, Welland Canal and at Sault Ste. Marie (the Soo Locks). Fellow boat nerds will be interested to know that the ship’s horn heard in this animation comes from the freighter Edward L. Ryerson. Thanks to Dick Lund for the sound file. I also created another lock-related piece—an informational poster.
