Steven was crestfallen. “What can I do?”

“I will tell you what I would do,” said the minstrel, “I would give her a song, beautifully written and wonderfully composed.”

“Could you give me such a song?” Steven pleaded.

“Of course, said the minstrel, I would be honored to have one of my songs sung at the royal court. All I ask for in exchange is that necklace, since after all, you have no more need for it.” So the minstrel gave Steven a scroll with a song and Steven gave the minstrel the necklace. Then he departed and was once again on his way.
