Despite its appearance, this piece is not based on any particular story, myth, or tale. It just sort of evolved out of other ideas. I like the fact that it seems to suggest a story. Maybe I'll write one to go with it someday.

You'll note that my mermaid isn't wearing a silly "shell bra" like as is common in Disney movies and the like. I've opted for a more traditional depiction; until recently mermaids had always been depicted as nude by artists.
