This is the first card illustration that does not feature a person. It’s also a variation on an earlier card, Cookies For Santa. My children came up with the idea for this one. The dog is our dog Loki (also seen in Stringing the Lights) and the cat is our cat Cuddleglum, making his debut (Tasha and Nani, seen in Trimming the Tree, had both long since passed away).

The interior of the card carries this inscription: “Mom, Santa came! But he sure was messy!”
