Road Rage

1992
Watercolor, ink, 7 color pencil
6" x 4"

I don't know when the term was coined, but I remember becoming aware of media reports of road rage in the early 90s. This piece is unusual for me in that it does not use humor or irony in any way; it's pretty direct and in-your-face. My intent was to shock and disturb and make people think. To this day I still don't know if I like the piece.

The car on the left was based on my VW Golf. However, my VW was silver; I thought red would work better visually. The car on the right was a random car parked outside of my apartment the day I drew this.
