Like most Americans, I was deeply affected by the September 11, 2001 attacks. I was particularly moved by the sacrifice of the New York City Fire Department. I’ve always seen firefighters as heroes: under-appreciated, brave, selfless men and women who deserve our highest respect and admiration.
One of my closest friends in high school had a father who was a New York City firefighter. He lost his life in the line of duty several years before 9/11.
