A shot of the Rhode Island State House and a historic church, taken from Benefit Street.
When I took this photo I wasn't trying to be clever or make some ironic sociopolitical commentary; I just thought it was a cool image—the play of shapes, shadows, architectural masses, etc. It was years later when I was preparing this web site that the title "Church and State" occurred to me. Originally I had called it "Church and Capital Dome;" clever, eh?
