All of these images were made in a short span of time, from 1985–1987. These were my first two-or-so years at RISD, when I still entertained the possibility of pursuing photography as a career. During that period I shot almost exclusively in black-and-white which I felt was more artistic (and I could develop and print the photos myself). Some of these images were shot as class projects—most notably the photos that make up The Gift, a story I wrote and illustrated my sophomore year. However the vast majority of the hundreds of exposures I made over this period were for my own amusement.
