From early memories of Nike tennis shoes from an antagonistic brother, to tall red boots that spurred a break-up — shoes have been both statements of my desire for status and markers of particular moments in my life. Shoes, both necessities and accessories, have become a way to quietly assert a desired status or self perception. The pointy pink pumps broke away from this subtle assertion because of their exaggerated features. Their color, ridiculously pointed toes, and useless buckles did nothing except call attention to themselves and therefore the wearer (me).
