This was done as a class demo. The animation depicts the operation of a navigational lock, such as those found in the Welland Canal or at Sault Ste. Marie (the Soo Locks).

Fellow boat nerds will be interested to know that the ship's horn heard in this animation comes from the freighter Edward L. Ryerson. Thanks to Dick Lund for the sound file.
