Santa's Treat

In 1989 I decided to make my own Christmas card. Because color reproduction was expensive, I created a black-and-white line drawing. The card proved to be a hit and it started a tradition—I've drawn the artwork for my (now our) Christmas card ever since. Initially my cards featured anonymous, fictional people (mostly children); but since the birth of my daughters they have become my primary subject.

This was the first Christmas card I made that did not feature a person. It was also a variation on an earlier card, Cookies For Santa. My children came up with the idea for this one. The dog was our dog Loki (also seen in Stringing the Lights) and the cat was our cat Cuddleglum, making his debut (he would reappear in Sledding a few years later).

The interior of the card carried this inscription: Mom, Santa came! But he sure was messy!
