In 1994, Ila Borders became he first woman pitcher to start a men's NCAA or NAIA college baseball game. In 1997 she would join the local St. Paul Saints and become the first woman to play pro ball.
In 1996 I had my first daughter, Rachel, and like all dads I dreamed of possible futures for my girl. Wouldn't it be cool if my daughter was the first woman to make a major league club? Of course, it would have to be the Yankees. Although inspired by Ila Borders, these drawings were a fanciful projection of my newborn daughter Rachel. Will she ever make it to the Bigs? Probably not; but she does enjoy playing softball.
