Happy Times sketch #1

1999

6" x 5"

In 1999 I was hired to create a number of illustrations for Happy Times magazine (Concordia Publishing). The central story. consisted entirely of a family conversation held around a breakfast table, with absolutley no action! How do you make seven pictures of essentially the same scene look different and interesting? I approched the problem as a movie director would, moving my “camera” around, always trying to find interesting things for the characters to be doing in the scenes. Here are the sketches for five of the illustrations (unfortunatley I don’t have copies of the final pieces).
