Big Dreams

1991
Ink on watercolor paper
7" x 7"

I wanted to do an illustration of a little girl imagining that she is a big-league ballplayer. I based this on a sketch I’d done previously. Stylistically, I was strongly influenced at the time by Mercer Mayer and Maurice Sendak, particularly Mayer’s What Do You Do With a Kangaroo? and Sendak’s Outside Over There . But after two failed attempts at a finished color piece I gave up. Maybe I’ll return to it again someday.
