Pearl Baseball Cards

2007
Photography, Adobe Illustrator

In 2007 my daughters played softball at Pearl Park in Minneapolis. I was the manager of one team (the Jade Giraffes) and an assistant coach of another. Seemed like the perfect opportunity to create more cards, so I made a card for every girl on each team and gave them each a full set.

I realize the Jade Giraffes look more teal or turquoise; "Jade" was the name given to our team by the Park (they differentiate by color; our league had jade, pink, kiwi, red, yellow, and blue I think). I thought we'd get jerseys that were more—well—jade in color, but when they arrived they were teal. Rather than fight it, we kept the name. As for the Giraffes part, I let the girls vote on a mascot and that's what they chose. I also created the giraffe character for the card.
