"In "Heather Help Me," reporter Jessica Riddle recalls that, as a teenager, she and her friends would often pick up the phone and dial the letters “H-E-A-T-H-E-R”, and speak to the man who answered. He would talk to them about anything. She wasn’t sure how it began, she speculates it was some “urban legend” she once heard at a slumber party and then decided to try it. It soon became commonplace among her friends to prank–call “Heather” from parties and other get-togethers. But over time the prank conversations evolved into more regular conversations. Sometimes they were quite serious. Heather became a confidant and counselor. But was he more than just a friendly voice? Did he hide a dark secret?
