Video is playing an ever increasing role in our lives. From the proliferation of digital cam corders, camera phones and web cams to the wide availability of consumer video editing software to the phenomenon of "vlogs," "vocals" and YouTube—video is everywhere. Is this a good thing? Should we be excited by the omnipresence of video and embrace it as a great societal leap forward, or should we be concerned that the proliferation of video may be having a detrimental effect on our culture and our country or world?
Write a well researched paper that argues for one of these positions: the omnipresence of video is on the whole good or it is bad. You decide which side you wish to defend. Regardless of the side you pick, defend your argument—don't just throw out opinions. Read other authors, look for studies, conduct interviews. Marshall the facts. It's no good saying "x is good because I say so;" you have to back it up.
The finished paper should be at least 1500 words (5-pages) in length and contain a bibliography of at least 6 sources. At least 3 of the sources must be non-web sources, dictionaries, or encyclopedia (so you'll have to find some books and/or journal articles). The time table for drafts and the final are below:
| Benchmarks | Deadlines | |
|---|---|---|
| Pick your side. | Week 6 | |
| Outline due. | Week 7 | |
| First 750 words due. | Week 8 | |
| Complete rough draft due. | Week 9 | |
| Revision 1 due. | Week 10 | |
| Final revision paper due. | Week 11 |
Finished Paper is due week 10.
