VCB422 Digital Video Production

Project: Vodcast

By now, most web-savy folks have heard about podcasts. "Vodcasts" are the video equivalent: mini web-based TV shows that can be subscribed to and downloaded by iTunes or similar aggregators. As with podcasts, vodcasts cover a wide range of topics and intentions. Some are informative, others are nonsensical. Here are a few examples of vodeo podcasts:

Assignment

Write, direct, produce, film, edit and publish your own vodcast. As I mentioned before, video podcasts can be about anything! To help you focus, you may wish to create a podcast about a hobby or specific interest you have. Or you may also do an interview. Or you could do something more satirical—a sendup of a particular show or genre (see "Ask a Ninja").

Procedure

  Steps   Deadlines
1. Come up with an idea for your vodcast. Run it by me and get my approval.   Week 2
2. Write a script. If you plan on interviewing someone, you will need to script your questions (as well as introductory & closing comments).   Week 3
3. Create a set of storyboards that detail camera shots, graphics, use of music, etc.   Week 4
4. Shoot your footage. We have one camera so you'll have to take turns (unless you can supply your own). I will try to set-up a process where yu can check-out the camera and bring it home to shoot.   Week 6
5. Edit your footage using Final Cut (you may use After Effects as well). Make sure you fade-in from black at the beginning and fade-out to black at the end.   Week 8
6. Add a soundtrack where appropriate (naration, background music, incedental music, etc.) Sound effects may also be useful.
7. Create open titles using After Effects. Render as a Quicktime movie. Incorporate into your Final Cut project.   Week 10
8. Create closing credits in Final Cut.
9. Make a slate. The slate should run for 2 seconds at the beginning of the vodcast. Note that the slate is not part of the credit or title sequence—it's not technichally part of the vodcast at all. It is simplt there for my use (so ai can see who made this and when).   Week 11
10. Create an RSS feed. If they're not to big we can trying uploading them to my server.

Deadline

Finished Vodcast is due the final week of class.
