Project 2: Ad banner
Assignment
Create an ad banner suitable for a web site, that advertises a holiday sale at a store of your choosing. You may determine the holiday and the nature of the sale.
Specifications
- Size: 720 x 90 pixels if horizontal; 160 x 600 pixels if vertical.
- Frame Rate: 15 fps
- Length: 10–20 seconds (120–240 frames).
- Due Date: week 6
- Deliverables: both the FLA and exported SWF files.
Other Requirements
- The store featured must be real (Menards, Macy's, Victoria's Secret, etc.).
- You must use a real holiday (Halloween, Christmas, Ground Hogs Day, Valentine's, etc.).
- The ad must contain text—information about the sale, dates, name of the store, etc.
- You must use tweening of some kind (motion or shape or both).
Procedure
- Pick a store and a holiday.
- Brainstorm. Do thumbnails of possible ad layouts and animation sequences. Ask yourself, how are the various elements going to animate? Items can move left & right, up and down, or all over; they can spin, change size, fade in and out, and change color. With shape tweens they can even morph into new shapes. You can (and probably should) animate the text of the ad too.
- Build as many of your elements in Flash as you can. You may import bitmaps if you need to incorporate photographic imagery (a photo of a product, for example).
- Animate the objects & text using tweens. Remember to put every object that moves/changes on its own layer.
Hints
- Make sure the text is large enough to be legible.
- Make sure the text is on screen long enough to be read.
- Keep your animations short, simple, and eye-catching.
- Often the last frame stays "frozen" at the end of the animation, so it's a good idea to have the store name and sale info visible at the end.
