Exercise: Fun with text

Assignment

Using Adobe After Effects, animate the text of a quote.

Procedure

  1. Find a quote from some well-known person. Not sure where to find one? Here are some sites you can try:
  2. Launch After Effects and open a new composition. Make it 640 x 480. Set the duration for 15 seconds, and the rate to 30 frames per second.
  3. Go to Layer choose New > Solid. The color is not important, but it should be the size of the composition (640 x 480).
  4. Go to Effects > Text > (either) Basic Text or Path Text (I'd recommend Path Text, because there are a lot more animation options available to you). Write out your quote (or copy & paste it).
  5. Animate the text in some way. In addition to the regular "Transform" options (position, opacity, rotation, scale), animate the text effects (tracking, shear, color, jitter, moving the path control points, etc.).

Deliverables

Render your composition as a Quicktime movie, highest quality & full resolution. Give me the finished Quicktime movie, NOT the After Effects file.
