Midterm Study Guide
The midterm will be a written test. No notes, books, or open compputers allowed. Students should be prepared to answer multiple-choice questions on the following topics:
Selections
- Students should be able to recognize the following tools and know their functions:
- Marquee tools (rectangular & ellipitcal)
- Lasso tools (including magnetic & straight line lasso tool)
- Magic wand
- Students should also know the following:
- What key is pressed to add to a selection?
- What key is pressed to subtract from a selection?
- What adjustment controls the softness of a selection edge?
Painting tools
- Students should be able to recognize the following tools and know their functions:
- Paint brush
- Eraser
- Gradient Tool
- Students should also know the following:
- What is the difference between RGB & CYMK color?
- How can one create a custom gradient?
- What does the "flow" setting on a brush control?
- What are blending modes?
Layers
- Students should also know the following:
- How do you create a new layer? How do you get rid of one?
- What do the four layer lock options do?
- What are blending modes?
- How do you create a layer mask? What does it do? How can you add to/subtract from a layer mask?
Adjustments
- Students should be able to recognize the following tools and know their functions:
- Spot healing brush
- Healing brush
- Clone stamp
- Burn tool
- Dodge tool
- Students should also know the following:
- What does the Levels adjustment do?
- What are the three components of color?
- What does the Dust and Scratches filter do?
Patterns & textures
- Students should also know the following:
- How do you create a pattern swatch?
- What filter can be used to show the seams in a pattern image so that they can be removed?
- What do the following filters do: Clouds, Fibers, Add Noise?
