Based on your personal interests, research and create a work of art which illustrates and/or imitates an era, a style, or an artist from the ancient world up to the present. You will present your piece to the class on the final day.
The most obvious solution is to create a reproduction—to copy a masterpiece in paint, sculpture, etc. But there is room for interpretation. You could create an original piece in a historical style. So for example, you could create your own Rococo painting, or Art Nouveau poster, or Surreal photograph, etc. Or, you could opt to recreate a famous piece in a different medium—a diorama (sculpture) of a well-known painting or a photographic recreation of such. You could also be more fanciful, creating interpretations with unusual media—Klimt's Kiss made out of construction paper, or in a Greek temple built out of sugar cubes (well, as long as it doesn't rain...). You may also use digital media, as long as it is used wisely and creatively.
I do not want to see however, pieces that do not challenge you technically. For example, I will not allow reproductions of Black Square by Malevich or other overly simple compositions. When grading this project I will be looking at several criteria:
How faithful is the piece to the original (if applicable) or style?
How challenging was the piece to create? The more difficult/challenging the piece o create, the better it will score.
How creative, unusual, clever, bold, or daring is the piece?
