Animated BOB
Logo
Assignment
Using Adobe After Effects, create a short animation, using the provided logo.
Procedure
- Download this folder . Inside you will find two versions of an Adobe Illustrator file.
- Open either BOB_logo_1.ai in Adobe Illustrator and examine how I've set it up. Note the use of layers—each element is on its own layer—this is by design. Once you've familiarized yourself with the file, quit Illustrator.
- Launch After Effects. Go to File > Import and select BOB_logo_1.ai. In the import widow, choose "Composition — Retain layer sizes;" this will preserve the layers in the Illustrator document, allowing for each to be animated separately.
- Open the composition (double-click on the composition icon in the project window). Notice how each layer appears in the timeline.
- Go to the Composition Settings. Set the duration for 15 seconds, and the rate to 29.97 frames per second. Also make sure the aspect ratio is set to square pixels.
- Animate the layers. The goal is to have the logo move in some interesting and entertaining way (assemble, fade, implode, fall from above, bounce, crawl, etc.) before it finally comes together in its final form at the end. In order to do this, work backwards. Place keyframes at the end of each of the layer properties to establish their final positions. Then add keyframes to the beginning of each of the layer properties and move the various elements to their "starting" positions.
- In addition to animating position, animate the rotation, scale, and opacity for at least one element each.
Hints:
- In BOB_logo_1 the pieces of confetti make up a single layer. However, in BOB_logo_2 each piece of confetti is on its own layer. Choose that version if you wish to animate the pieces of confetti independently.
- You could add a piece of music or sound effects to give the animation a bit more life.
- Remember—the last frame must be the logo assembled in its proper form (the way it appears in the Illustrator file).
Specifications:
- Preset: custom
- Composition size: use size of imported artwork
- Length: 15 seconds
- Output format: H264 (in an mpeg-4 wrapper)
- Deliverables: rendered video file, NOT the After Effects project file!
- Due Date: week 5
