In 1978, Reggie Jackson and Ron Guidry were my favorite Yankees. Reggie had led the Yanks to their first World Series title in 15 years the previous October with his amazing 5 home run performance (3 coming on consecutive swings in the final game). Guidry meanwhile was tearing through the American League in 1978. By early August, when this drawing was made Guidry was 15-2 with an ERA less than 2.00. He would finish 25-3 with a 1.74 ERA, and a remarkable 9 shutouts. The Yanks would go on to repeat as world champs that fall.
