About Dan Fergus

Dan Fergus was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in White Plains, New York. From 1985 through 1989 he attended the Rhode Island School of Design where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration. Upon graduation Dan moved to Minnesota. Since 1990, Dan has taught drawing, traditional illustration, computer illustration, interactive design, multimedia and web design at Brown College (formerly Brown Institute). In the fall of 2004, Dan began pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts degree in Multimedia/Interactivity from the University of Minnesota.

In addition to teaching, Dan works as a freelance illustrator & designer. He offers a variety of art and design services: illustration, graphic design, commissioned art, web design and multimedia. Dan works with both traditional media—watercolor, acrylic, oil, gouache, color pencil, and ink—and digital applications including Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects, Final Cut, InDesign, and Director. Clients have included Concordia Publishing (Happy Times magazine), Augsburg Fortress (Parish Teacher magazine), the University of Minnesota, Urban Ventures, Supernatural Graphics, Polaris, Greenfire Digital, People Responding In Social Ministry, Minnesota Youth Soccer Association, Park Avenue United Methodist Church, the Banyan Community, and many other small businesses and individuals.

Dan has many diverse interests—he loves baseball (his favorite team is the Yankees) and is also a big boat nerd (specifically Great Lakes freighters). Dan likes to cook and to garden. He enjoys reading books on science, philosophy and theology (his favorite author is C. S. Lewis).

Dan, his wife Julie, and their two daughters Rachel & Eliana, all live in a little house in Minneapolis along with their dogs Loki and Odin, cat Cuddleglum, and rabbit Conejito.
